About Us
Nittany Greyhounds has been going strong for more than a decade now, and our mission and commitment has never changed. We exist to find homes for retired racing greyhounds. Our board members and all of our volunteers are committed to our mission and we do fund raising, plan events, and bring dogs to Pennsylvania for adoption.

Executive Summary
Since 1997, Nittany Greyhounds has been dedicated to placing as many retired racing greyhounds as possible into forever homes. Through a wide network of volunteers and board members spread across western Pennsylvania, Nittany Greyhounds has been able to sustain a strong base of committed workers, and through their efforts, close to a thousand greyhounds have been rehomed. Five satellite locations operate throughout Pennsylvania, covering 25 counties and utilizing hundreds of volunteers who have donated tens of thousands of hours. Nittany Greyhounds has developed a reputation of distinction and quality throughout the U.S. racing industry, and the organization is known to take animals that others will not (injured or 'difficult').
For the last five years, Nittany Greyhounds has been raising money with the single purpose of again having a physical facility within which to house retired greyhounds. We have been operating using foster homes, which has been successful, but resulted in fewer adoptions just because we could not handle as many dogs at one time.
Now, though, our situation has changed. In July of 2008, with the help of much fundraising and generous benefactors, Nittany Greyhounds was able to purchase a 20-acre farmette very close to State College. The property has an existing kennel, so we moved in and immediately filled it with dogs. We have already had two events there, and will have more to raise awareness about greyhound adoption and other dog-related activities. Our intention is to be a community resource, affecting changes between owners and their dogs by providing education and activities dedicated to a better bond. Our relationships with the greyhound racing industry have not changed; we will continue to maintain good relationships with those from whom we get our dogs, and we will have as many greyhounds as possible on our property, ready for adoption.
Our numbers of adoptions are way up this year, partly in response to the new kennel and to renewed adoption awareness events throughout central Pennsylvania.
Vision
Nittany Greyhounds will be known as the premier greyhound adoption and education program
in the United States to include a quality shelter, community education programs, agreements
with other pet rescue organizations, and outstanding relationships with track owners.
